Creating connections and collaboration through virtual conference TV

    May 11, 2020 12:05 am | no comments

In unprecedented times with the global COVID-19 pandemic causing lockdowns in most countries worldwide we are witnessing, with sadness, the cancellation of many global conferences and meetings.

But arguably it is in such times that the world more than ever needs knowledge transfer and collaboration to continue. Now is the time for a more scientific and analytical approach, as the physicist and chemist Marie Curie said: “Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.”

Her words echo what many conference organizers are feeling too as they strive to keep their meetings from cancellation and research accessible to their audiences –  but just in a new more virtual way.  Whether in science, medicine, society or technology research improves our health, the quality of life and societies we live in. New ideas need collaboration and this need has not gone into lockdown – in many areas, particularly across medical research right now, this need is accelerating.

We have always wanted to help organizations shine a spotlight on their innovations and transformative research. Our work helps to showcase the important work being done by organizations and research institutions globally – work that directly benefits humanity, and in many instances, work that directly improves health outcomes.

As conference organizers worldwide turn to creating virtual conferences to temporarily replace their onsite events, WebsEdge is lending our creative media capabilities to enable virtual events to help retain the feel of an onsite event.

We know how hard it can be to replicate the experience of ‘being there’ online. WebsEdge has spent the last 20 years bringing world-class TV to global conferences, but over the past 2 years we’ve been working closely with leading organisers such as AGU and ICMA to add virtual conference TV to their online meetings.

For both organisations we’ve been able to produce short 10-15 minute programs featuring interviews with leading scientists and highlighting their work through short videos. Pictures are the lifeblood of television and this format makes science accessible in a way that webcasting speeches and poster sessions alone just can’t do.

We’re proud that the work we create helps to foster knowledge transfer and enable collaboration – even in the most challenging of times. Thankfully technology is one of the great enablers allowing us all to communicate virtually and stay in touch right now  – whether that be with loved ones, friends, colleagues or for idea exchange. We’re glad that even during a global pandemic that research can continue, new ideas can still percolate and collaborations can still happen. Never have we been happier too that we can play our part in helping to showcase this important work.

If you’d like to talk to us about how WebsEdge can enhance your virtual event and engage your audience please contact us or email our Co-Head of Partnerships Terry-Louise Jones: terry@websedge.com.
