For better understanding of the Arctic Change
Rapid decrease in Arctic sea ice and significant environmental changes are one of the most drastic evidences of global warming. Better understandings of the status, trends, and causes of the Arctic change and accurate future prediction are very important issues for not only Arctic but also global communities. To find out the environmental rapid changes and growing anyone's interests of the Arctic issues, Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) established the Institute of Arctic Climate and Environmental Research (IACE) on April 1st, 2015. IACE has 5 research and development (R&D) groups such as ocean environmental & climate research, marine ecosystem research, geochemical cycle research, future prediction research and observation technology development. We are conducting R&D activities for better understanding of recent drastic changes and accurate future prediction on the Arctic environments. In this movie, we introduce our R&D activities and facilities, such as R/V Mirai, Earth Simulator, etc. Please keep in mind that we continue to provide our useful data and knowledge regarding Arctic changes not only to the science community but also to the stakeholder for Arctic and global issues.
