In 2014, the Center for Epigenetics & Metabolism at UC Irvine and the KAUST Environmental Epigenetics Program began a partnership to advance research on how genes and metabolism shape our bodies and minds. With collaborative research on key topics including the circadian cycle, nutrition, adaptation to extreme environments and cell memory, the combined knowledge of the two organisations will allow major steps forward in the field of environmental epigenetics. By sharing state of the art equipment at both locations, and information from the two distinctive gene pools available to them, KAUST and UC-Irvine are able to reach new levels of understanding of the influence of our environment on our genes, and vice versa. In addition, the partnership allows the students and graduates at both locations to establish new relationships and gain placements at their partner institution. With both universities offering excellent quality of life and a great place to study, the partnership is offering aspiring academics even more opportunity.
