Agricultural fatality rates exceed the national averages for all workers. Fishing workers are 36x more likely to die on the job. Logging 30x. Farming 5x more likely. The burden of agricultural occupational injuries in the United States has been estimated at $8.3 billion in medical costs and lost productivity. PNASH is one of ten NIOSH regional centers directed to conduct research, education, and prevention/intervention programs in agricultural industries.
