Research Innovation and Technology Center for New Materials
Sustainable development based on Innovation in the field of Advanced Materials
The Research Innovation and Technology Center for New Materials (RITecC) is part of the National Institute for Materials Physics (NIMP) in Romania and dedicated to innovation and technology transfer in the field of advanced functional materials to promote a sustainable growth not only in Romania but also in Europe and the world.
Basic and applied research is performed in three key areas: energy and environment (renewable sources, storage, saving, cleaner production and pollution prevention); materials for life sciences and bio-economy (biocompatible materials, bio-sensing, targeted drug delivery) and materials for niche applications (hard environment, thermal barriers, analogue computing).
Among the studied materials are oxides with semiconducting, ferroic, superconducting properties, hybrid organic-inorganics and composites. Nanostructuring is a key element in developing applications, as well as combining materials with different properties in complex heterostructures. The research cycle covers all the steps from material preparation to application demonstrators, going through thorough investigation of structural and physical-chemical properties.
RITecC is also involved in C-ERIC (large distributed research infrastructure), in H2020 projects (new developments in the field of ferroelectric memories) and private contracts (memristor matrices for cryptography).
