A Multidisciplinary Team to Fight Prostate Cancer
King's Health Partners Prostate Cancer Programme
Multidisciplinary work is essential to making new discoveries in Prostate Cancer which will save and improve a great many lives. King's Health Partners' Prostate Cancer Programme is a unique multidisciplinary group in that it works across all related fields, including: patho-epidemiology, oncology, urology, clinical care, robotic and imaging research, amongst many other areas. For example, in Oncology a study is being done that takes blood samples from patients, analyses them for immunological data, and in collaboration with patho-epidemiology, is able to help predict prostate cancer susceptibility in patients. In Urology patients get access to the latest techniques in-robotic surgery, while the programme is engaged in cutting edge research into improving techniques and technology for improved outcomes. Samples are taken after surgery to inform the programme's patho-epidemiological research. Excellence in Imaging is also essential, with imaging data informing research, while research is being done into improving imaging techniques and use. Ultimately all these areas cohere to steadily improve the effectiveness of treatment for prostate cancer and to spearhead the next big breakthroughs in the area.
