Crime Survivors for Safety & Justice
Alliance for Safety and Justice
Crime Survivors Speak: Victims’ Voices to Change Safety and Justice.
Over the last five years, an organized movement of diverse crime survivors has grown from a handful of people in one state to a national network of over 30,000 in states across the U.S. This film explores Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice, a project of the Alliance for Safety and Justice, and its organizing to create healing communities and shape public policy in support of new safety solutions that reduce the cycle of crime and harm in communities. The stories and voices of crime victims illustrate the importance and support of policies that address root causes, such as mental health and substance abuse treatment, and prioritize prevention, rehabilitation and trauma recovery. Public health-rooted approaches are supported instead of over-incarceration and other justice system policies in place from the past that have left victims undeserved and failed to end concentrated violence in communities.
