Tsinghua University
Leading Technology and Creative Thinking with an International Outlook
With a long history of engineering education, Beijing’s Tsinghua University is leading the way for the next generation of engineers. Using its new educational philosophy, the university focuses on teaching students across three important pillars: personal attributes, technical skill and academic knowledge. At the same time engineering education is defined by the Double T plan – facilitating leading technology and creative thinking.
This new resolution to train talented independent-minded engineers with a wide range of skills has led to the development of the I-Center. Bringing together advanced manufacturing, innovative education as well as societal and industrial outreach, I-Center is the world’s largest makerspace. The I stands for everything from industry, to innovation, to interdisciplinary and international, and provides students and faculty with a comprehensive learning environment where they can pursue their own unique ideas.
An international perspective is essential for the engineers of the future, and the university is backing this through the International Centre for Engineering Education (ICEE), with the support of both UNESCO and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. ICEE is committed to building an inclusive engineering education community for promoting quality and equity in engineering education all over the world.
