Excellence in Research and Patient Care in Anaesthesiology and Intensive Medicine
The Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden, counts 156 anaesthesiologists who perform more than 32,000 anaesthesia procedures/year in more than 40 operating rooms. Almost all surgical specialities are represented, delivering anaesthesia with the highest international standards, using last generation equipment. A strong asset of our department is the use of cutting-edge regional anaesthesia techniques, where we also offer courses and workshops.
The anaesthesiology intensive care unit has 30 beds. Our major expertise is in advanced lung support strategies, including extracorporeal techniques. We have an expert team that offers consultation to other hospitals treating patients with respiratory failure and are we able to transfer patients to our unit by air- and ground ambulance.
As a reference trauma centre, we are also responsible for the care of patients in critical emergency situations and serve the whole region of Dresden and surroundings.
Pain therapy, both acute and chronic, is offered within a multidisciplinary approach within a “Pain Centre”. This centre, which is led by one of our physicians, counts with the highest standards. The postoperative pain therapy is cutting-edge and delivered on the 24/7 bases.
Besides clinical duties, we perform both experimental and clinical research, with a strong track record of publications in the most renowned journals worldwide. Also, we have been leading some of the largest clinical trials on mechanical ventilation, contributing to improving patient care.
