Division of Materials Science and Technologies, Oak Ridge National Lab Description: We live in a materials world and materials science is important in every aspect of our daily lives. Today, there are many issues to be resolved (energy, water, environment) that depend on sound materials engineering. There are just as many new solutions that require new materials. To resolve these issues, a science-based approach is critical. Modern materials science tools (e.g., advanced characterization tools, past experience, and computational tools) must be employed. Materials science at ORNL combines these elements of modern materials science to provide solutions for energy, water, and environmental solutions.
