Get Real! Science: Preparing Agents of Change
Get Real! Science prepares future teachers to be ambitious science teachers who are also advocates for change by incrementally scaffolding the challenges of reform work. Each of four field experiences exposes them to a particular set of dilemmas while protecting them from others: 1) inquiry as learners (conceptual dilemmas); 2) summer camp in a rural context (conceptual & pedagogical dilemmas); 3) afterschool science club in an urban context (conceptual, pedagogical and cultural dilemmas); 4) classroom-based field experiences and student teaching (conceptual, pedagogical, cultural and political). Get Real! Science capitalizes on the unique affordances of learning to teach in outside of school contexts as important complements to those inside of classrooms.
